Spain took a 32nd Trial des Nations title at Arteixo, and an Electric Motion rider reached the podium in the Challenge des Nations.

Spain won the FIM Trial des Nations for a 32nd time at Arteixo on Sunday, its trio of Toni Bou, Gabriel Marcelli and Jaime Busto having the title locked in by the halfway mark of a rain-affected day. Great Britain held off Italy for silver, with France’s Benoit Bincaz — riding an Electric Motion — part of the team that finished fourth, pipped by a single mark after a late Italian fightback.

Electric Motion had riders in three of the four categories on offer. In the women’s event, Great Britain’s Emma Bristow came out of retirement to lead her side to the title; France’s Alicia Soyer and Margaux Pena, both on Electric Motion machinery, finished fourth. The best result of the day for the brand came in the Challenge des Nations, the mixed-gender two-rider category, where the Czech pairing of Tadeas Mikunda — on an Electric Motion — and Petra Budinova took third, behind Germany and Spain.

That bronze came with help from a disqualification. Great Britain’s Challenge pair finished on 23 marks, which would have put them second, but were disqualified and left out of the final classification. No reason has been published.

Norway won the second-tier International Trophy after a tight tie-break with Germany.

Australia had two teams in Arteixo. Connor Hogan (Scorpa) and Ben Walling (Beta) finished ninth of 16 nations in the International Trophy on 114 marks, while 15-year-old Mitchell Teale (Beta) and Jenna Lupo (TRS) were ninth of the ten classified pairs in the Challenge des Nations on 188.

It’s the second year running Great Britain has finished runner-up in the men’s event, and the third time in four years its women have taken the title. For Electric Motion, four riders across three categories is a solid showing, even if none of them reached the top step.
