Honda’s CR Electric Proto and Yamaha’s YE-01 will share the track for twin electric motocross demonstrations on both days of this year’s Motocross of Nations.

Honda and Yamaha will run their electric motocross prototypes side by side at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Ernée, France — a joint demonstration on both Saturday and Sunday, at 12:45 local time, in front of what organisers describe as the largest crowd of the season. Event promoter Infront Moto Racing called it “a symbolic initiative that reflects the collaborative efforts of both Honda and Yamaha.”

TerraVolt flagged Yamaha’s side of this plan earlier today, when the YE-01’s exhibition run first surfaced via the manufacturer’s own release. What’s now clear is that it won’t be a solo demonstration — Honda will be right there on the same track, at the same time. As far as we know, it’s the first time the two have shared a track in public.

Honda brings the CR Electric Proto, a bike with genuine racing pedigree: it competed in the 2024 FIM E-Xplorer World Cup — a mixed-terrain electric off-road series rather than motocross — with Team HRC, winning the Men’s Championship and finishing runner-up in both the Women’s and Team Championships in Honda’s first season in the series. Riding it at Ernée are Trey Canard, Honda’s first rider to race an electric motocross bike (2023, All Japan Motocross Championship), and Justin Brayton, a longtime AMA Supercross campaigner. Yamaha’s YE-01, first shown at EICMA last November, pairs YZ450F chassis technology with Electric Motion’s power unit; it’ll be ridden by Ben Townley, the 2004 MX2 World Champion, and Milko Potisek, runner-up in the 2011 MX3 World Championship. Four genuine racers, not test riders wheeled out for a photo op.

It’s billed as a demonstration, not a race — but with those riders, on that stage, we’re hoping the throttle hand gets the better of the choreography at least once.

It’s a great step forward for eMoto to see two of the ‘Big Four’ manufacturers on the same track at the same time. The step to racing each other can’t be too far off.
